If you’re transitioning from a system powered by natural gas, oil, or propane to an electric heat pump, you might be eligible for combined heat pump rebates of up to $11,000

CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate Program

Optimize your home’s energy efficiency with a variety of upgrades, including geothermal heat pumps, through the CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate Program.

This rebate program is a collaborative effort of the Province of British Columbia, BC Hydro, and FortisBC, offers up to $6,000 in rebates for enhancing home energy efficiency through selected upgrades. This program is accessible to B.C. residents living in eligible homes with residential utility accounts from BC Hydro, FortisBC, or municipal utilities. To take advantage of these rebates, applications must be submitted within six months from the invoice date. The eligibility requirements and available rebates are determined based on the date of the invoice, and residents can refer to the program’s FAQ for details, especially for invoices dated on or before September 30, 2022.

The program encompasses a range of upgrades, including heat pumps, with municipal top-ups available for some. There are also rebates for natural gas furnaces, boilers, water heating, secondary space heating, and building envelope upgrades, although municipal top-ups aren’t available for these. Additionally, participants can opt for either the Two Upgrade Bonus or the Home Energy Improvement Bonus, but not both. To be eligible, the applicant’s home must be a primary residence, at least 12 months old, and primarily heated with specified energy sources like natural gas, electricity, or oil. Different types of homes, such as single-family homes, mobile homes, and multi-unit dwellings with separate utility meters, are eligible under this program. However, utility accounts in the name of a strata corporation are not eligible.

Canada Greener Homes Loan

The Canada Greener Homes Loan offers a significant financial boost for homeowners looking to make their properties more energy-efficient. This interest-free loan provides up to $40,000, repayable over 10 years.

It’s available to homeowners who are already participating in the Canada Greener Homes Grant program and are at the pre-retrofit stage of their application.

This loan is specifically designed to support financing for approved retrofits, as recommended by an energy advisor, and applies to projects that haven’t commenced yet.

Introduced in 2021 by the federal government, the Greener Homes Grant program assists homeowners in enhancing their home’s energy efficiency. It offers up to $5,000 towards energy efficiency retrofits and home energy evaluations. Additionally, the program provides a maximum of $600 to offset the cost of home energy assessments.
